How Does the VAP© Cholesterol Test Work?
The patented VAP© Test is a single comprehensive test for all lipoprotein classes and subclasses, and consists of the following three sequential steps:
1) separation of lipoprotein classes and their subclasses according to their density, using vertical spin density gradient ultracentrifugation
2) continuous enzymatic cholesterol analysis of separated lipoproteins using the VAP analyzer
3) quantification of lipoprotein classes and subclasses in terms of their cholesterol concentration by deconvoluting the total cholesterol profile obtained in step 2, using proprietary software
Thus the VAP© Test provides directly measured cholesterol concentrations of all major lipoprotein classes [HDL, LDL, VLDL, IDL, and Lp(a)] and their important subclasses, such as HDL2, HDL3, and LDL1 – LDL4. In addition, the VAP© Test also provides LDL subclass pattern (A, A/B or B) and remnant lipoprotein cholesterol.

“Atherotech has been a welcome professional partner in our study of differences in outcomes following acute myocardial infarction. We believe that with Atherotech’s help, we can create fundamental insights into the link between fatty acids and patient recovery outcomes following AMI.”
